Our volunteer staff is made up of a diverse group of individuals from various religions, races, genders, and backgrounds across various fields such as as education, non-profit, gaming, government, health care, radio, and high school. All volunteers go through a criminal background check and receive 24 hours of training prior to each camp.

VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS:


ADVISORS:

 

Preferably at least 25 years old and have experience working with youth in the community or in groups. Advisors need to be able to lead and facilitate a small group of high school students from different backgrounds. Professional background and personal traits should blend with the general requirements for background diversity and qualities sought among Anytown staff members. Must be in good health and capable of working in group settings for long hours.

 

In developing a team of Advisers, a deliberate effort is made to represent various occupational fields (business, non-profit, counseling, education, public administration, law enforcement, and others), genders, ethnicity, races, cultures, and experiences.

General Job Description
  1. Assist in facilitating small group discussions of high school students from diverse backgrounds in breakout sessions and to facilitate interaction during downtime.
  2. Facilitate various workshops under the lead of the Executive Director.
  3. Help setup and breakdown activities.
  4. Be attentive to camp counselors and delegate needs and to offer assistance when necessary
  5. Encourage delegates to extend boundaries regarding what they think and what they feel
  6. Deal sensitively with the process of growth of the delegates
  7. Lead by example
  8. Be supportive of camp counselors in maintaining discipline
  9. Get delegates to activities, exercises, and meals on time
  10. Follow and enforce camp rules
  11.  If not assigned a specific task, blend in and participate in all activities.
Desired Qualities
  1. Exhibits leadership
  2. Familiarity with issues regarding cultural diversity including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, interfaith, gender, sexual orientation, and ability.
  3. Has a cooperative attitude and is even-tempered.
  4. Is compassionate, non-judgmental, and has a positive attitude.
  5. Exhibits sound ability in decision making, role modeling, and listening skills.
  6.  Is able to sensitively deal with emotionally charge topics.

COUNSELORS:

 

Preferably 18-25 years old and involved with groups or organizations which are task and people oriented. Personal traits should blend with the general requirements for background diversity and qualities sought among Anytown staff members. Must be in good health and capable of working in group settings for long hours.

 

Although Anytown experience is important, it is not necessary as long as an applicant is able to attend all staff training/development sessions. College students and high school graduates are considered desirable for the position due to the level of responsibility and experience required in implementing the Anytown program.

General Job Description

    3. Participate in all activities with enthusiasm while allowing the delegates experiences to take priority over one’s own experiences.
    4. Deal sensitively with the process of growth of the delegates.
    5. Lead by example.
    6. Supervise assigned delegates at all times, including during sleeping hours at night.
    7. Get delegates to activities, exercises, and meals on time.
    8. Ask for help when you need it.
    9. Follow and enforce camp rules.
